An Oscar statuette is gold plated on the R.S. Owens factory floor in Chicago January 11, 2008. The company will manufacture approximately 75 Oscar statuettes using a 15-step process over a six-week period. The finished statuettes are made of a metal Britannia pewter alloy and are plated with copper, nickel, silver and 24-carat gold.
